Diamond Village Mosque

Diamond Village, San Fernando

About the Masjid

Diamond Village Masjid was first built of wood in the early 1900s on land rented from the Ste. Madeline Sugar Company. It was a small structure built by our first Imam, Haroo Khan of Punjab, India. The mosque was only established in the year 1935. After the passing of the first Imam, his successor was Imam Sayed Mohammed Shah who was also Punjabi. As Islam began to spread in the community so did the demands of the establishment. Our next Imam was Mohammed Hassan of Barrackpore, our longest serving Imam to date. He served from 1955 up to 1996 (42 years). Under his leadership the mosque was rebuilt, a new concrete structure replacing the old one. It is now more spacious, equipped with air condition, fans and even a public address system. Muslims from Picton Estate, Wellington Estate, Monkey Town, Barrackpore, Pleasantville, Ste Madeline and Diamond Village proper began to attend various religious programmes and other activities at the mosque.

In earlier years the Imam conducted all the affairs of the Masjid. As the membership of the Jamaat increased there was need for change at the administrative level and as such a new system emerged. Presently, the administration of the Mosque is handled by an elected management committee headed by the President, Haji Fyzool Khan. Our current Imam, Maulana Ibrahim Drayton-Loney remains the spiritual leader of the establishment and has been charged with this duty since 2018.
